Xfm Rock Show Blog 13/05/12

Last night I had a bunch of contests.  Well done to MARC RAMAGE and JACK GROVER who won tickets for GHOSTFEST, ISHA SHAH and JASMINE HUSSAIN will go to WARPED TOUR in London and SAM MOTT gets to see SLAYER perform Reign In Blood in full at ALL TOMORROW’S PARTIES in Alexandria Palace.

It’s good that despite the cancellation of Sonisphere, the UK can sustain a number of really good Rock festivals on a smaller scale.  Warped Tour hasn’t been here for thirteen years, so it’s return is much welcomed.  Especially as it forms part of Lost Prophets’ second UK run of the year in November.  If you saw them recently you’ll know they are top of their game.  Check out the live session songs in this week’s Rock Show if you’re listening again – top stuff.

Hello.  I’m a little later than usual with this, cos I was taking it easy on Bank Holiday Mon.

On Sunday’s show While She Sleeps discussed their rise and their forthcoming album.  It’s not due until August, but I think it will be one of the Metal albums of the year.  It’s awesome.

If you’re listening again also check out Download Festival organiser Andy Copping and Metal Hammer editor Alex Milas talking about this year’s Download and the tenth anniversary.  I have to say, after we’d recorded that the three of us sat around chatting for ages and some of the stories told were awesome!  None of which we could broadcast.  But believe me, Mr Copping has an awesome book in him, if ever he were to tell some rock n roll tales!  In fact, he may be capable of writing more of a sitcom!

Congrats to BEN HELDREICH for blagging the Download tickets, thanks if entered that contest.

On last night’s show I spoke with a couple of people who, I think it’s safe to say, have something to prove on their new releases.  The general consensus is that Marilyn Manson had lost his way and needs to re-tread a more solid path with his Born Villain album.  And Frank Carter has gone through a total reinvention with Pure Love.  What do you think of their new songs?  I guess we only have one track from Frank so far, but the new Manson album is out now, so check it out.  I like it, especially The Gardener song.

Well done to LAUREN PRICE-WAGSTAFF, she won the Hevy Festival tickets.

Slash and Twin Atlantic were on the show last night.  I saw Twin Atlantic last week and they were great.  You could see all the time spent touring across America (which they mentioned in the interview) has really paid off.  They are becoming a truly great British band.  And as for Slash, it’s aways a pleasure to talk with him.  Look out for the new CD coming with the ‘fan pack’ magazine that’s being put together by those good people at Hammer and Classic Rock.
